I am having a hard time sourcing any raspberry pi's. Are there any alternatives that are available? I need it to be able to run headless debian. im designing a system for automation of watering of plants.
Are there any places with raspi in stock or any alternatives?

If your system plans to be an embedded solution for personal use only, and you don't care about poor mainline Linux support, then the clone boards like the Banana Pi are still reasonably priced and available.
I feel that people are being quite snobbish about only wanting to use a Raspberry Pi, when for a lot of IoT scenarios clone boards would work just as well when Pis are hard to find, or too expensive.
I would not recommend a clone board for general desktop or server computing though.
ReplyGood luck, took me a month to find one in stock, and they go quick!

ReplyAn Arduino ought to have enough horsepower for a plant-watering application. They're cheaper than a Pi, sensor availability is comparable, and they're not hard to program.
