As Australia was colonised by the use of convicts (with very few exceptions), the social structure was (and still is) very much "the police state".
This is particularly true of Western Australia and Queensland.
The laws reflect this and the culture of the police and the various states governments reflect this.
Once a culture is entrenched it is very difficult to change it.
ReplyIt really does feel like we're the western worlds guineapigs when it comes to invasive technology, and honestly because people in this country are so completely apathetic when it comes to their rights I don't see it changing any time soon.
