I guess, if you're calling development and startup cost zero.
They're early adopters. Guessing they're worth a lot since you're counting on them.
I don't know about ROS2, but ROS is pretty good for prototyping things. Maybe not what you want for shipping a product, but it is highly productive as a platform. Lots of companies use it.
I wouldn't call a self selected vocal minority the 'true face' of anything.
There have always been 'get off my lawn' types, predating nextdoor. Nextdoor is also not heavily used in every single neighborhood across america.
Even this conversation thread is driven by the selected group of people that participate in the specific social network in question.
Is this situation also reflected in gradschool and phd applications, or is it as competitive as ever?
Note that I didn't comment on the outcome, only the intended purpose. I suggest reading the demonization wikipedia article for more examples if the India example doesn't satisfy you.
It's similar to the demonization in India in 2016 where the goal was to force people to declare their piles of black money. People don't always declare things correctly for tax purposes, and black money leads to other parallel economies (terrorism, trafficking, etc). In modern times it also encourages people to switch to digital payments rather than handling cash, something which makes tracing money easier in general.
By the definition, software isn't an economy of scale. Unit cost doesn't decrease by magnitude as output increases. A utility company is an example of economy of scale.
Right, but you pay for light and environmental control.
The thing is the M1 does actually compile code faster than a 2015 Macbook Pro. I use both, for things like word processing I find they both work equally well.
Notebooks are much less varied in the types of work you do with them. It's mostly pen or pencil to paper kind of work.
Now do it with ketchup packets.
I think the point is, if it's generally accepted culture in the community then others will be mindful as well because they know what's going on.
Who manufactures it? I think TSMC and Global Foundries both do 12nm?
Just curious, is there any special significance in pointing out it's owned by Mormons?
Why specifically nonlinear dynamics rather than starting with just dynamical systems? Curious because, in my expereince when studying control theory, nonlinear controls is usually one of the courses that is taken later in the sequence after a lot of linear control techniques.
Ask HN: Has there been a change in the troll activity on the internet?

For mangos the varieties that dominate in the US are the ones grown by the mexican and south american producers. They actively lobby to keep out other producer, and they can't just change what they grow overnight (nor does it benefit them since they already control the US market).
US food inspectors are required in places like India and Asia, but if enough inspectors aren't hired then you can't expect the exports to grow in a meaningful way. As you can imagine incumbent mango producers in the US don't want more inspectors in these countries. It's basically a cartel.
Some details for why in the discussion thread here: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=28166646
I am not familiar with Prosus but wikipedia says it's Dutch, not Chinese.
These look really cool
