I think many times the autodialer does a bit of a pre-screening. Like, if I say “hello?” there’s a quick pause and then either the recorded spiel starts (which is more pre-screening) or I get connected to a call center (there’s usually a little “pop” sound).
It’s like any other business… they want to be talking to qualified leads because they only have so many call center scammers. This is why Kit Boga et. al. are truly doing the lord’s work by wasting that precious time.
Where did you shop for used ex-mining cards?
I love trolling these scammers by being the right number they never expected. One time I had one looking for a price list on precious materials. I sent them prices for Adamantium, Tiberium, and Xen crystal. The confusion was fantastic.

Part of this is video chat applications insisting on VOX operation for the most part, leading to the totally unnecessary “you’re muted” problem. Push-to-talk is an afterthought in many of these products, but it’s absolutely the correct UX to avoid most of these problems.
I get that functionality with go-guru for Go. Having powerful refactoring and static analysis tools shouldn’t require them to be integrated into a monolithic application.
Anyone have a good self-hosted version of this? I’d like disposable email addresses that won’t get added to block lists.

I would say that’s probably about as much as you would want. The best technical writer I ever worked with went from basic computer skills to becoming an expert at deploying and configuring the database software we developed on myriad infrastructure. The newcomer’s mindset helped make the writing wonderfully approachable for anyone to read.
The process was always something like: 1) Learn how to do the thing, but ask really good questions along the way (I often reconsidered some of my own design choices from those questions) 2) Use the gathered information to write about doing the thing.
I remember reading once (maybe it was Freakonomics?) how using public funds to build stadiums didn’t stimulate the local economy like the arguments for using those funds said they would.
The reason boiled down to the fact that each family has so many entertainment dollars they’re willing to spend. All they do is shift those dollars around rather than spending a larger share of their disposable income overall on entertainment.

It’s kind of amazing how putting English through a food processor exposes its Germanic roots.
You don’t have to. I have 15 gallons of ethanol-free gas I get from the airfield (unleaded) in the garage for filling up the mower, generators, the snowblower, etc. It usually takes about six months to get through it all. I fill up a jug when it goes empty, etc., etc. If it really becomes a problem, I’ve got plenty of gas to get to where someplace has working gas pumps.

Ugh, yeah… it’s so frustrating that as a consumer you can’t tell for certain whether your teeth need to be drilled or not. I’d so much rather pay some bullshit dentist-needs-an-audi fee, rather than pay to needlessly destroy the structural integrity of my teeth so they can make a buck.
Could this be because of wall street’s increasing investment in crypto? It just seems like every time there’s an investment that offers shelter from a crashing market that becomes accessible to joe investor, it ceases to be a good place to hide.

This is why coding challenges are an immediate dealbreaker for me these days. If I’m going to do a project to showcase my skills, you can be sure I’m going to put my all into it. Getting ghosted after that is insulting beyond words.
Put me in an interview setting and I at least know that it’s time-boxed and the interviewer is losing just as much time as I am.
The TV show “Into the Night” played with this idea too.
Buying a device like this is basically a hedge that the same information won’t make it out via the emergency alert system.

People that own >$1 million USD assets. Some of these folks have multi-million dollar properties that they only actually use for a week or two per year.

The past six months, I’ve been getting recruiter spam every week from companies that sound increasingly like outright scams. Low base pay, but you’re compensated mostly in their wildly overvalued scrip… I mean crypto. Those emails have (thankfully) stopped… I imagine their crypto platforms imploded. I see this correction as dollars getting directed towards things people actually need.
