Similarly, when I get a call I now ask them how I can call back. I don't think this is outlandish if companies are consistent with this.

Yes, and it has a number of other features, but it's behind a paywall. So perhaps this is for those that want some of those features but don't want to pay.
It doesn't exist in English Wikipedia. If you find this weird, my guess is this acronym must have gotten more (mainstream?) attention in Germany (despite being in English).
I've never heard of it and I don't think it's common where I am (Canada). Sometimes people coin terms and they get picked up in some places, but not others.
When I lived in Germany and the Netherlands, it was often surprising to me which foreign terms/concepts/artists get elevated to mainstream relevance. There's a lot of imported culture from English speaking countries, but it's through a specific filter.

Completely agree, but also I remember that 'piping curl into bash' was always one of the biggest no-no's. I held onto this for so long, but then realized every time I run 'npm i' arbitrary commands can also run, and now it seems wild that I ever cared about curl | bash on websites that I trust
I'm by no means an anti-SPA zealot, I think they have their place.
But, it's pretty humorous at times to see people put all this effort into replicating what was once the default behavior of the web.

This makes sense to me, but I wonder how many VCs will pump money into a business, having a pretty good hunch that the business model will never make that much sense at a meaningful scale, but the numbers will probably look good enough for a return of investment until the pyramid collapses after the series C.
These companies are restructured for increase of perceived value, not multi-decade sustainability. Bitcoin to me is just the purest form of this culture.
I have all the same concerns regarding pollution, but Bitcoins rise has made me think a lot about the 'value part' in other stocks.
If Bitcoin's price can get this high without the 'intrinsic value' or producing something, then this effect probably also exists for other stocks. And this made me wonder: how big of a factor is this in other tech companies.
The more I think about it, the more I feel that it must be the majority for many of them. Many companies operate at a loss and are just pumped up to push up metrics, just so someone else will pay more for it in the next round.

Maybe calling it an introduction instead of a 'complete guide' might quell some of this.
No data to back this up, but I think there's no trend back at all. Electron-like apps will continue to be dominant and people will never stop disliking them.
Building for Electron / Web is so much cheaper considering the frameworks, transferable knowledge and virtually free support for all platforms. People have never not hated on Electron though, and that's because it's also always going to be a worse experience.

Non-cloud pattern and 2008 are both unqualified issues.
That said, RDS is great. Managed, automated backups and portable.
I hope people considering this architecture read this article and reconsider if they can build their applications using mostly portable services.
I'd be curious what kind of use-cases people have that makes this complexity worth it.
