If they do, you’ll see government requests for backdoors into them, and maybe Musk fights, maybe he doesn’t. But given that all cellular providers, Meta, Apple, and Google are all playing nice with law enforcement on wiretaps, I see no reason that Twitter would be any different, ultimately. The only safe encryption is one you control, and is not centralized to some giant corp.

Agree with you on all of that. The general HN sentiment towards cryptocurrency is so acutely negative. I generally don’t even bother clicking links related to it because of this issue. Its just asking for whiny diatribes about how crypto sucks and will ruin everything. It’s ironic to me how freedom loving HN can be, until it is finance related and threatening governments and banks but empowering the masses. Seems bizarre to me.

Well you clearly feel strongly, but it came off as a bit harsh when the creator spent 12 years on these. How is this different than shareware or 30 day software trials or feature limited trials? Free stuff shows the quality, nature, general function. If you need more or need to use it commercially (to make money yourself), you have to pay to upgrade. Seems pretty much like this approach is analogous.

I had a seriously heavy Abus lock on my storage unit. Extremely difficult to pick and hardened but the thief apparently used a diamond circular grinder to just cut the shackle. I still use those locks, and they are solid. But as with anything, it seems if a nefarious actor wants to get in, they will. Just a matter of their resources and time and skill.
